Why You Should Consider a News Fast

In a 2014 survey 40% of Americans reported being negatively influenced by news. I am guessing that now, in late summer of 2021 that those numbers have climbed.

I read news fairly often, and not the fluffy variety. I keep current through a variety of sources and viewpoints - but lately I have come to realize that I'm over consuming. I have too much information and not enough brain space to digest it all. I'm not getting anything out of it other than despair - and I'm choosing not to focus on the bad.

I'm choosing to do an information fast, freeing myself from digesting news until the next copy of the Sunday paper hits my driveway. The choice is to focus on the things I can control and spend zero energy on the things I cannot control.

So - why a News Fast?

Reduction of stress, increase of free time, ability to think clearly - I could go on but I won't.

I am not choosing to bury my head in the sand, but rather allow the news to develop, then catch up at regular intervals.

Maybe you want to try it too?
