The Hardest Part About Change

Updated: Oct 2, 2019

I've been trying to change my morning routine.

In my mind, I wake up, drink water, go in the backyard and sit down to read a book for 20-30 minutes, take notes on tasks for the day then meditate for a few minutes.

Last week I did this. It was amazing. It was also hard.

This Monday I heard the alarm, hit snooze a few times, grabbed the phone and then started checking news, e-mail, social media, bank accounts and reports.

I do this all from under my covers. It's cozy.

What it isn't is productive, or healthy...and I know it.

These are all external things, some of which I have no control over, yet they can and will affect me internally if I allow them to.

Just like you, I'm modern day busy - and it's empty. Hollow.

The hardest part about change is the actual execution. Figuring out what's wrong and getting an idea together to create that change is easy.

What's hard is executing on the 4th day. The 19th day might even be harder. The 78th day could be damn near impossible. Staying the course can be grueling. If you've plateaued and don't see a pay off, it can be down right demoralizing.

The number of clients I've had that have said, "This isn't working" is not long, however the names on that list do have a few things in common:

-Irregular accountability check ins

-An abundance of 'can I have this' questions

What works is simple systems, but most people want 'One Simple Trick' or '7 Hacks to Lose Stubborn Belly Fat'.

Looking at these phrases, we know that they're bogus, yet we still fall for it.

So, what to do about it? Don't fall for it.

Understand that real change takes time and discipline.

Discipline creates freedom.

Freedom creates change.
